About Willowgate Yarns

Willowgate Farm, home to Willowgate Yarns, is located in lovely northern New England in the state of Maine [USA] about 20 minutes from the lovely Maine Coast.  My name is Fran Wheeler and I am the owner of Willowgate Yarns.

I first started knitting many years ago. Over the years, knitting took a back seat to life, as hobbies and interests often do.  But several years ago, my interest in knitting was renewed.  I developed a keen interest in different types of yarn.  I found that many of my local shops did not carry specialty yarns -- and that there were many boutique producers all over our part of New England whose products were gorgeous, but so hard to find -- if you could find them at all.

That was when I decided to start an online business that caters to high-end, often hand-spun and/or hand-dyed, quality yarns from local producers here in Maine and northern New England.

Willowgate Yarns pledges to offer quality yarns at reasonable prices. Our aim is to introduce you to the talented yarn producers in our region, and to provide you with yarns that will make your special projects even more special. You'll be helping to support and encourage the work of small farmers, spinners, and dyers -- which should give you a mighty warm feeling, too.
